a) Whanau Ora is a race based fund, paid for by the taxpayer ($134.3 million for the four years from 2010), which finances “family reunions” for Maori families and only for Maori families. Each family can be awarded up to $20,000. Even members of the Notorious Mongrel Mob in Dunedin were given some of this race based funding while Otaki’s Rahui Rugby and Sports Club was given $60,000 in 2011 to “undertake whanau development research”.
